For over twenty years, Thomas De Monaco has been working as a creative director and photographer between Paris and Zurich, working for international clients in the premium and luxury industries – with names like Hermès, Dior, YSL, Armani, Moët & Chandon, Hennessy, Rolex, Cartier, and Piaget, to name a few.

In December 2020, after more than three years of development, he launched his first fragrance for Thomas De Monaco Parfums. In 2022 the second collection followed, Eau Coeur and Grand Beau. Both scents are designed for the here and now, to be savored and indulged in, and long-lasting, deliberately designed with beautiful raw materials and contemporary molecules.

“As a photographer, I always begin with an image that the scent should convey. I start with a solid base, which lies somewhere between the mid and dry notes, without paying much attention to the raw materials; instead. An intense and long-lasting mood is created. Only then do I go into the upper tones and build out the melody. Layer by layer, I put one layer on top of the other until the song, or the whole picture, is right - and the fragrance feels complete.

“I’ve always disliked the principle of the classic fragrance pyramid. People often make it too easy for themselves with their descriptions, which are often nothing more than a list of ingredients. But they neglect the feeling when suddenly an accord is evolving, unexpectedly morphing into something completely new and unimaginable. Something you may not be able to predict, but which at the same time pulls the ground out from under your feet and turns your head.

“This complexity is the essence of my perfumes when words are no longer enough to describe a state. That is when a fragrance becomes poetry for me. Eau Coeur and Grand Beau were created this way, based on images authentically experienced, felt to the fullest, and reimagined through scent.”
