An anomaly in the world of spiced honeyed varietals, This Is Not A Blue Bottle is a stripped down yet decadent, abstract rendering of a classically autumnal scent. Like the provocative absence central to a Magritte, This Is Not A Blue Bottle challenges our noses to consider the significance of presence and authenticity. Aldehydes and orange zest fizz against one another, like floating components of an invisible fruit-juice-less mimosa. The peculiarity of this morning amuse bouche is compounded by a brunch table of honey-stuck, acidic geranium petals. As ornately mosaiced as a Matisse interior, the heart of this scent is primarily populated by patterns, rather than people. Still, the lingering waft of some living being underscores This Is Not A Blue Bottle; a velveteen musk anointed with tangy, ripe patchouli oil and a salty sea dust (amber) drifts in and out of this composition, a nameless face that appears and vanishes into the Dali-esque deliquescing landscape. Though it initially appears to be two dimensional, this scent is not minimalist or linear; This Is Not A Blue Bottle is a rich fragrance, a color dense character who momentarily tricks our noses into perceiving one color where there are many. An infectious play on the subjectivity of scent, what you smell is not always what you get; but in a fragrance packed in a blue bottle, entitled This Is Not A Blue Bottle, you probably already could have guessed such a scented conundrum would arise. Spray to explore the limitless possibilities of less as more.

Very unconventional. Starts out with a fresh honey amber for me. Then mellows into an aldehyde and hard to define somehow sweet and earthy note. This is a unisex scent apparently but as a late 40s man, it seems to react well with my body chemistry and comes across decidedly masculine, fresh, and unique. A welcome departure from the overtly citrusy stuff millennials tend to wear, and the same old stuff boomers fall back on. I also appreciate the reference to Magritte’s The Treachery of Images as it really seems appropriate.
