Transistor radio hewn of sandalwood radiates ragas in the Bandra heat. Hot copper tubes warm the soft wood releasing blooms of musk, cream, peach, ambrette, coco and cedar distillates. This radiant fragrance transmits handsomely. Wood is singed by the searing, metallic sweetness of copper, which somehow generates a quality similar to an imaginary process of a dagger hewn of rose, smoked by saffron and dipped in leaded water. This terse, floral electricity is reinforced in the dry, sweet smolder of cedar. Cedar’s moistureless intensity is a perfect segue into the powdery, searing green of sandalwood. As sandalwood shines brightly out from the dark interior of this scent, iris shimmers around its edges, a purple fairy dust that softens some of sandalwood’s daunting verdancy. Boronia recalls lusher, more corporeal florals, like the clean vibrancy of freesia or the fresh intensity of cassis. Balsam fir absolute is a cutting dose of bittersweet green that contrasts sharply and tantalizingly with a luscious, lactic slick of coconut musk.

Ambergris is a salty, dusty finish to this fragrance, as hot and crunchy as Lucinda Williams’ Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. Radio Bombay reactivates our aural perception of sandalwood and it’s sparkling, inter-synaptic energy. As this scent crackles on skin we feel invigorated, grounded and ready for whatever news may come our way.
