Late one night, walking from the subway to his studio, Heretic Parfums creator Douglas Little, was mugged at gunpoint. After surrendering his wallet he was pistol-whipped and left in a heap. Recovering from this traumatizing incident, Little experienced something called an olfactory hallucination: for weeks after the event he awoke to the smell of tuberose and gardenia, but the flowers were nowhere to be found. Doctors explained that traumatic events, especially physical ones, can trigger scent-based hallucinations. Though Little’s floral dreams eventually evaporated, the experience became inspiration–for Pistil Whip.
A fragrant play on words, this scent is an explosion of lush florals, which collapse into peppery smoke and mysterious notes of black tea. Spicy pink peppercorn illustrates a rapidly rising pulse while ripe bergamot illuminates the bursting brilliance of crisis. Within the heart, tuberose absolute, carnation absolute and tiare flow with full floral flamboyance, the flushed pounding of blood flooding sweetly back into circulation after a scare is survived. A deep, grassy vetiver and the smoky finish of lapsang souchong absolute ground Pistil Whip, the dry yet uncertain earth after the storm has passed. Scary -beautiful, Pistil Whip is a big experience, an awakening to life after a brief dash with death.
