Musky and citrus fresh, Brooklyn is an urban playground. A non-stop, go-go-go personality full of creative and intellectual fizz. A fresh, spicy, fizzy head has us power-walking to a breakfast meeting beneath the Brooklyn Bridge. The air is alive: acidic tremors of bergamot, floral lemon and sweet orange juice softly erode the faint traces of last night–smoky incense and too-cool-for-school cardamom. After our energetic morning, we awake to a lazy May afternoon in Park Slope. Our skin glows, and all we can really smell in our sunny stupor, is fresh air and that particular blend of saline and cement that is New York ozone. We nestle into the small flowers embedded in the grass and dream on, towards dinner. Later, we sit amidst the early summer breezes beneath the gleam of a million lights: the candle on our table, lighting seeping out from bars and restaurants, bright apartment windows, into which we peer, curiously. Cocktails with friends are full of the heady, musky textures of American spirits enlivened by shimmering bittersweets (benzoin rendered liquid) and just the right dose of crunchy salt (amber, simplified). Brooklyn life is sweet, and sizzling with action.
