Sheltered from the passage of time, libraries contain the power to teleport. Concealed within this black wax, a dream space lies hidden. Its vast shelves of age worn wood are home to collections of novels and poetry by literary geniuses: the smell of aged leather is a muted, animal sweetness against the fragrant rustle of pages turned long ago and the polished shelves that contain these tales. A bouquet of violets and peonies adorns the reading table, suffusing the ancient atmosphere with a joyous, piquant perfume of fresh life. As one sits to read, the waxed floor cracks beneath one’s feet, as the leather spine creaks, expanding to reveal whatever lies beneath the cover. The velvety sensation of paper beneath one’s fingers is transmuted into the silken, tangy-sweet textures of peach, plum and vanilla. Omnipresent patchouli is the backbone of this composition. Bibliotheque is a contemplative but never quite fragrance, filled with as many tales as Scheherazade could tell.
