Comme des Garcons coupled with the Andy Warhol foundation to create a tribute to the avant-garde artist and one of his riskier projects: Andy Warhol’s YOU’RE IN is a redevelopment of original fragrance art Warhol designed in 1967. A citric elixir bottled in silver (spray painted) Coke bottles, Warhol abandoned fragrance production when a cease and desist letter arrived from Coca-Cola.

Comme des Garcons offers an updated take on Andy’s perfumed efforts: within a silver lined, bright red and yellow package, (with bold graphics inspired by vintage Warhol film posters created under the direction of Ronnie Cooke Newhouse of House and Holme) matte, conical silver bottles (each featuring a different Warhol quote) await pop-art friendly hands, eager-to-perfume. On each 100ml bottle and corresponding box, a different Warhol quote is printed:

“I never read, I just look at pictures.”
“In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes.”
“I never fall apart, because I never fall together.”
“In 15 minutes everybody will be famous.”
“Art is what you can get away with.”
“If everybody is not a beauty, then nobody is.”

Whatever your preferred epigraph, this Warholian scent is as universally appealing as Edie’s overdrawn eyes. Bitter orange is a crisp opening accent, the ideal coconspirator for aldehydes’ soapy, sprightly fizz and sizzle. Makrut lime zest introduces a spicier, slightly more acidic quality to this scent, its insouciant piquancy making us dream of candy colored pills and candy flavored cigarettes. Crushed leaves complement lime’s psychic edge, and their cruciferous dulcet dimension engineers a delightful softening. Jasmine is the sweetly silent heart of this scent, a satin-creamy core that effectively absorbs and refracts all preceding and succeeding notes: jasmine synthesizes the soul of You’re In. Coriander leaf sparkles, like mistletoe overhead, christening jasmine and its captivating power. The verdant intensity of pittosporum is smoothed over by the luscious, milky strength of cashmere wood, while downy musk and salty amber surround all elements herein, a cloudlike base that seamlessly conducts scent to skin. As enlivening and elegant as it is atypical, this scent is a colorful romp through familiar (read: classic citrus cologne) territory.
