As bold and brave as can be, Karagoz is a straight-up, rambunctious frolic that's simultaneously super smart--in both style and intelligence. Pineapple is a subtly acidic sweetness that ignites and triggers black grape to unfurl her the musty charms. A bouquet garni (of, perhaps, thyme, sage and lavender) refines the punch-drunk love effect of these two top notes into something super quaffable. Neroli and jasmine reiterate the jammy quality, which pineapple and black grape modelled, but with a touch more of floral power and control. Neroil's shimmering spice drapes jasmine's sinuous creamy shoulders and the friction between these two flowers is imagined in the dulcet, dank smolder of patchouli. Beneath all this fruit forward action, vetiver dusts scent-dense agarwood with such a verdant sparkle, that the funky-fresh wood melts into a salty-sweet, golden flow--amber. Karagoz is two parts witty sensual repartee to one part indefinable intelligence. An irresistible character who knows no bounds, Karagoz surmounts and seduces every hurdle, head on. About the Shadow Play Trilogy Collection: The main inspiration for Nishane in 2016 was the poetry of Rumi. In 2017, the SHADOW PLAY collection is inspired by traditional shadow puppetry. An ancient form of storytelling and entertainment, this puppetry is built around flat, finely articulated cut-out figures (shadow puppets) held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim. The cut-outs sometimes include translucent color or other types of detailing, and various effects can be achieved by moving both the puppets and the light source: a talented puppeteer can make the figures walk, dance, fight and laugh. Nishane's creative directors, Mert Guzel and Murat Katran, dreamed of bringing the stories of Hacivat, Karagoz and Zenne (the lead characters of the traditional Turkish shadow play) to life, through scent, and to explore the contrasting ways humans (or puppets) interact. Energetically, HACIVAT (translating roughly to Ivaz the Pilgrim) celebrates elegance, competence and a love of art. ZENNE is beauty, self confidence and flirtation. KARAGOZ represents both wit and honesty. As these three scents intersect and diverge, we experience a fragrant magic, as big and unpredictable as life itself.
