A Lab on Fire Oxymusc
Alberto Morillas’ minimalist, transparent perfume is fresh and ever-so-slightly ripe. Oxymusc sinks into skin like fresh dew. Initially, it can be almost difficult to detect this scent: but after about half an hour on skin, this concentrated formulation definitively surfaces, as a slightly saline and sheerly floral fragrance. Thyme and lavender add herbal definition to this delicate structure while a leathery, boozy tune (terse birch and lush Bourbon vanilla) sounds in the base. Oxymusc remains superlight throughout but evolves into a soft yet enlivening comfort. An ideal option for those who’d like classic florals at a low-key volume.
Andree Putman L’Original
Olivia Giacobetti unmistakable signature, a graceful, luminous chic, defines this lyrical, androgynous scent. Driftwood is lightweight, evoking images of an overcast, late-winter shoreline. Coriander is succinct yet palpable, cold air blowing off white-caps. Water lily is a cream glow, an almost vegetal floral that’s elegant. L’Original is a cool-hot conundrum that keeps us fascinated. A unique, everyday signature, L’Original conveys integrity and peace.
This sparkling scent tells the story of a gentleman of mid-nineteenth century St. Petersburg, Russia. Aleksander is set amidst the snow and winter, which contrasts sharply with the fervent fragrances (neroli and violet) with which this man adorns himself. According to the legend, after he scrupulously performs his toilette, he dons a heavy fur and polished leather boots: and where might this gentleman be headed, in such fragrant finery? To fight a duel, of course! Aleksander is razor sharp, witty and tantalizing, a taut scent that’s emboldening yet subtle–perfect for the battle of business.
Bruno Fazzolari Monserrat
The lightest peach made lush with jasmine, then smacked into utility by a dose of wet plaster. Reminiscent of a small city in Spain where every mother owns a hair salon, every father is in construction and all the children are Penelope’s and Pedro’s just waiting to collaborate. Essentially, Mediterranean everyday splendor you could wear to a business meeting without waxing anachronistic.
Carner Barcelona D600
The urban, Mediterranean spirit of Barcelona. A spiced scent, that is pleasingly fugitive on skin, D600 plays a subtle game of intrigue with classic, masculine tropes in scent. Black pepper dusts bergamot, a tingling amuse-bouche. The aromatic refreshment of grapefruit is christened by cardamom, akin to the drape of early autumn sunshine over a citrus grove. Iris is delicate, a dusty flower that counters the intensity of jasmine. Cedarwood, vanilla and vetiver create a base that is simultaneously bright, piquant, fruity and sumptuous. D600 conveys the friction of opposites attracted, without any of the drama. A scintillating scent that keeps us confident, whatever the dynamic.
Heeley Menthe Fraiche
A garden of scent. This contemporary classic is as refreshing as a minty kiss. Crushed spear and peppermint macerate in bergamot, while a stream of hot green tea infuses this herbal citric cocktail with a tannic, floral heat. Freesia echoes tea, adding an aqueous angle while white cedar grounds shimmering scent while keeping it airborne. Menthe Fraiche is effortless, androgynous glamor that invigorates us. A scent that communicates intelligent sensuality, Menthe Fraiche winkingly embodies the phrase, ‘good, clean fun’.
Maria Candida Gentile Finisterre
A tribute to el Camino de Santiago, Finisterre commemorates the impulse to keep going. When travellers reach the ocean, they bathe in the salt water, burn a garment they wore during the pilgrimage, and take a shell from the beach as evidence of their experience. The thoughtful, celebratory nature of this ritual is neatly conveyed in Finisterre. Soft, saline and slightly floral, Finisterre feels both like an escape and an inspiration that helps us to focus. Bittersweet fennel dances through the sparkling atmosphere of marine accord, while pine’s piquant, sap-infused green potency fuses with the lush, savory density of grey amber. Finisterre is a deeply satisfying evocation of the ocean, and all it’s calming, symbolic power. A centered scent.
Nasomatto Silver Musk
A definitive skin scent, this citric-edged musk is inspired by the idea of a superhero’s body odour. A sheer fragrance with confounding lasting power, Silver Musk will power you through even the most impossible and inescapable office scenario. Musk is a clean version of human, while the bright, acidic tones that overlay it register as if finely carved gems of citrus adorning this compliant skin. A subtle, saline scent, Silver Musk is an eternally delightful experience of exercise-fresh skin that never grows ripe or unseemly. In Silver Musk, we feel warmed up and ready to go.
A cool, earthy rendition of human. Iri_del is an organic compound that successfully reproduces orris butter, at a fraction of the cost. In Iri_del, Patricia Choux presents us with a portrait of iris that is slim, sharp and utterly modern. Embellished by iris concrete and irone alpha (the main molecule of the natural iris), Iri_del is underpinned by the angular, crackling notes of wood and amber. Bergamot and ambrette provide a musky effect that make this trim, dry scent glow on skin. Iri-del is a fugitive, feather-light scent that provides a nebulous sense of romance. A radiant, understated, expression of glamour.
Serge Lutens L’eau de Paille
This fragrance is a classical masculine, exploded yet contained. Hay absolute is the sweet and crackly star of this show, while vetiver, cereal accord and incense assist. Each individual element is a familiar classic, yet Sheldrake recreates their classical engineering to create an unabashed, juicy synthesis of all notes. L’eau de Paille is a hyper-masculine signature, that’s both tantalizingly remixed and recognizably handsome. When wearing L’eau de Paille, no matter who returns your emails you’ll keep on, striving for greener pastures.
