Vanina Murraciole revisits that inimitable classic, rose and oud. Initially sweet and hyper pixilated, Oriento is a feminine fragrance that is energetically seductive. Lemon is a rich, concentrated top note, supplying pithy, mouthwatering tang. Saffron seems to burn through this citric opening, as if burnishing lemon to a tawny, amber hue. Styrax reiterates the alchemy of saffron and lemon’s melding, creating a burning effect that is simultaneously bright. Under ylang-ylang’s mellow, tropical gaze, rose has never seemed so fruity; the red floral is rich, a raspberry bittersweet aspect emanating from its coiled petals. Apple is a refreshing, slightly aquatic accent, that keeps rose from becoming saccharine. Patchouli serves a similar, clarifying purpose, amongst the base notes. In this context, sandalwood’s gritty, savory texture marries with the hearty, fertile musks at the base of Oriento to recall oud’s creamy, sphinx-like stench. Oriento starts out as a vivid, sugar-fueled high and matures into a deep, opulent rendition of rose and oud, reset within the context of Murraciole’s musks. Sensual and intense, Oriento is a challenge we’re eager to take on.
