A lush indulgence, This Grand Affair is vintage, glowing glamour. Grapefruit and neroli sing a bright duet, their mezzo sopranos cutting through a golden waterfall of davana. The citric-artemisia flow rolls over a river bed of lemon and mandarin, and a mist arises; the fruity cool of lavender and the soapy esthetic of Bulgarian rose disperses on a breeze that floats from water to land. On the banks of this watery idyll, sweet smelling trees swell to great, fragrant heights. Laden with vanilla and tonka beans, sprouting patchouli and hosting small critters who leave a mild trace of musk, these trees suck up the wondrously scented water as it flows at their feet and evaporates in the air. A mellifluous cascade of a scent, This Grand Affair is both harmonious and majestic.

Inspiration: “If I had to give a picture of the American life, I would compare it with the situation at the resort. The entire activity, even the sentiment of the people, acquires an American character. It was King Fr. W’s birthday on August 3 while we stayed there at that time. It was a festival for 8 days, celebrated by water rides, illuminations, fireworks, etc. I sometimes still think about this grand affair. -Memoir of EMMA BLOCKI (1872)
