As a designer influenced by nature, it was logical that James Heeley should be fascinated by the world of scent. Born in Yorkshire, England, Heeley studied Philosophy and Aesthetics at King’s College, London University. In France, through his design work, the young Englishman discovered how scents are ‘designed’ and made.
Heeley focuses on constructing contemporary, elegant and highly wearable scents. Each of his fragrances epitomize this progressive yet appealing balance; ‘Menthe Fraîche’ (2006), created from such the simple yet difficult ingredient, mint, and is succinctly perfect in its bright, versatile linearity. With time, his beautifully constructed fragrances have evolved into more complex creations such as ‘Cardinal’, ‘Esprit du Tigre’, ‘Cuir Pleine Fleur’ and his recent collection of ‘Extrait de Parfum’.
As an autodidact, his continually evolving work now contains a varied collection of unique scents, each made according to the art of traditional French perfumery. Every detail, from the creation of the scent to the recyclable packaging is designed ‘in house’. Today, Heeley is one of the few owner-founder, and independent luxury perfume houses in Europe. It is this independence that allows the creative freedom to create individual scents that are simply unique.
Extrait de Parfum Collection:
Although invisible, perfume conveys mood, seasons, attitude, texture, colour and context. It is an expression of our persona as much as it is aspirational, aesthetic choice. With the Extrait de Parfums, Heeley explores some of his favourite ingredients in high concentration, to create a more intense, luxurious experience of the subject. There is a time and a place for everything, but at Twisted Lily we believe the time is always right to get a better feel for Heeley’s profound passion: there’s no better way than through his extraits.
